E(lephant)

E(lephant): A live performance by Kasabian made me realise they are very much influenced by music from India. The way they use certain sounds and scales in their music is a typical Indian but modern style. This made me want to experiment with the scales, rhythms and dissonant sounds of India, but in a contemporary way, mixing traditional sounds in a contrastful perception. The colourfull Indian elephant was the perfect methaphor for combining the old with the new.

B(lue): There are many reasons for feeling down and these depressions can interfere with achieving your goals. Psychology studies showed that depression is a way to cope with very complex problems. While being depressed, the human mind searches for solutions to solves these complexities, a depression is a way to evolve.

A(bstract):  The kickoff for a project to experiment with sounds and design, to translate ideas, influences and things that keeps us occupied. In many ways this project is not about producing songs head to foot, but a way to be able to get rid of styles and traditional structures.

Little Globe Records komt binnenkort met alweer de 4de release, wat weer een knaller belooft te worden! De promo’s zijn binnen en man, wat klinkt dat allemaal lekker. Twee tracks van Amateur, met daarnaast remixen van RipTidE, Ike Ratio en Cosmic Force. Van die laatste staat nu een preview online. Dikke bassen, vieze acidlijntjes en oude drumsamples. Maar dan wel in een  hedendaags jasje. Loving it!

Ableton live controller....

"Three units, which are resembling standard record players, translate concentric visual patterns into control signals for further processing in any music software. The rotation of the discs, each holding three tracks, can be synced to a sequencer.
In cooperation with the sounddesigner/ producer Yannick Labbé of TRICKSKI fame, we developed three unique discs, each controlling one track of an Ableton Live Set exclusively made for the Event. The show was supported by a set of realtime generated visuals, running on a 25m wide LED wall.

Coffee, coffee!

Coffee. COffee! CoffEE? Here is the mythical "Coffee Machine", one of the early favourite exhibits. It's an early voice synthesizer that is limited to the word "coffee". The exhibit has two knobs, one controls the bass/treble while the other one controls whether the word is pronounced as a question or an exclamation. The electronics were built by Philips in The Netherlands.
